SDF works to support the reduction and elimination of harms associated with drug use
SDF promotes evidence-based best practice in this area and has been involved in the development of innovative harm reduction approaches.
Currently, our work in this area covers the prevention of drug-related deaths; co-ordinating and supporting the supply of Take-Home Naloxone; work on the prevention and response to outbreaks of bacterial infection; improving the sexual and reproductive health of people who use drugs
Hepatitis Scotland is a project which helps improve preventative measures as well as the support and treatment of people who have or are, at risk of being, affected by viral hepatitis.
SDF also support two practitioner forums active in the area of harm reduction – The Scottish Needle Exchange Workers Forum and The Scottish Naloxone Network.
