Training and Development Officer, Workforce Development
Alan is responsible for designing and delivering high quality continuous professional development opportunities for national and local commissions to guide the Scottish drug and alcohol workforce in supporting the recovery of people affected by drugs and alcohol.
Alan is practiced in the counselling method, Motivational Interviewing (MI), learned and developed in the USA and UK from some of the world’s foremost experts on the subject. Alan is member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and has received training from Yale University School of Medicine (Department of Psychiatry) in applying an established, validated coding tool to analyse and assess learners’ MI practice.
Alan holds a BA in Community Learning and Development, a Post Graduate Certificate in Addictions and an SCQF Level 11 in Trauma on Mental Health from the University of Glasgow.
