SDF has published its commentary on the draft Right To Addiction Recovery Bill published by the Scottish Parliament a week ago. The Bill is a member’s bill proposed by Douglas Ross MSP.
The commentary is intended to promote discussion of the draft Bill and the implications of the proposals it contains.
Kirsten Horsburgh SDF CEO says ‘It’s helpful that the Bill has now been published. It contributes to the discussion on how we respond to Scotland’s public health emergency.
‘We have considered the proposals and have concerns that overall they are insufficient to deliver the radical change required to adequately increase the number of people receiving the treatment that they request and crucially, the quality of that treatment. This is vital in the delivery of the National Mission to reduce drug-related deaths.
‘But we welcome discussion on this because the issue remains – we need a step change in how we approach issues, which have accumulated over many years, in order to save lives.’
