SDF are happy to announce that applications are now open for the Addiction Worker Training Project (AWTP) and Recovery Worker Training Project (RWTP). For the first time we are able to accept applications from anywhere in Scotland.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Addiction Worker Training Project (AWTP) – a unique initiative which supports, trains, and prepares people with lived experience of drug and alcohol problems, to work in social care.
A/RWTP prepares people for employment through formal learning and in-work placements over a 39-week period. A/RWTP is an award-winning initiative which offers a unique programme of:
- Paid work experience
- Specialist training
- Intensive support to achieve an industry standard vocational qualification, the SVQ Level 2 in Social Services and Healthcare
- Peer, and one to one support from SDF throughout the traineeship, and beyond
Chris Messenger, Programme Manager, Employability and Qualifications says “with new funding from the Scottish Government we are excited to welcome more trainees from all over Scotland. People with experience bring so much value to the workforce. We want to provide people who face barriers the most realistic experience of employment possible within a supportive environment so that they can build skills for future career success.”
SDF understands everybody coming through A/RWTP has a unique background and level of experience, and with that knowledge we ensure everyone gets the right level of support to help them succeed.
A former trainee spoke about their experience with the programme, “I left school without qualifications and lost years to addiction. I thought no one would want to give me a chance. Getting the opportunity to work has truly changed my life and gave me my confidence back. The staff are amazing, they listen to your needs and there are no silly questions. They have your back and support you in every way possible. The programme has opened doors to many different opportunities to me, and I am forever grateful.”
Applications for 2024 are now closed.
