Wez Steele
Training and Development Officer (Peer Naloxone)
Wez is leading on the Peer Naloxone Supply Project funded by the Scottish Government, building on Scottish Drugs Forum’s previous work in this area to broaden and embed across Scotland. Wez delivers training, refresher days and reflective sessions with peer groups supporting events and outreach to raise awareness. He has initiated two separate national networks chairing quarterly meetings, one for peers directly involved in naloxone supply and one for those coordinating peer supply projects.
Wez joined SDF after working in a residential treatment centre, a fixed term research project (SHaRPS – Supporting Harm Reduction Through Peer Support) and in a rapid access homeless hostel with The Salvation Army.
Wez has personal experience of problem substance use and homelessness and is a keen harm reduction advocate. He is keen to raise the profile of living and lived experience voices within policy and practice settings.
Wez has an NVQ/SVQ 3 in Health and Social Care and was instrumental in initiating a psychosocial group for people who use drugs within homelessness and wellbeing centre settings. Wez was made an Honorary Research Fellow of Stirling University in 2022.
